I have worked for New Highway for just over 3 years, from DIP through to Team Manager in BANES, I am now Senior Practitioner in Wiltshire, responsible for the Outreach Team and Alcohol post. I have NVQ 3 in Management and NVQ 4 in Information, Advice and Guidance, and prior to working for New Highway I worked with homeless and vulnerable adults in Wiltshire for another charity.

I joined New Highway in 2003 as a volunteer in the Needle Exchange at Bath but as I enjoyed working with the client group so much I left my work as a dental technician to join the Wiltshire Team as an Arrest Referral Worker and continued working in the Drug Intervention Project for several years before moving to the Shared Care Team about three years ago now – how time flies!

I began working for New Highway six months ago as a temporary part time shared care worker, I have since taken a permanent post. I have been working in Drug and Alcohol services for the past fifteen years, and originally began volunteering at New Highway in Bath, moving to BDP in Bristol, where I took a post as a GP Liaison worker. After four years there, I moved to HMP Leyhill, where I was a CARATS worker, assisting to run a second stage treatment wing delivering groups and providing one – one support. I then took a part time post at an inner city project KWADS in Knowle West in Bristol, as a Relapse Prevention worker, where I set up an ran a Relapse Prevention programme, groups, one – one and helped to run the Family and Carers support group. Finally before I came to New Highway, I took a temporary post at Turning Point in Wells, as generic drugs worker. I have a Certificate in counselling skills.

I enjoy my work very much, especially working in such a competent, connected team and the opportunity to assist in helping develop services and give input into new ideas and treatment approaches.

My passion is still to work with the clients in frontline work but also enjoy thinking about new ways of developing the services we offer. I came into substance misuse work after working as a volunteer counsellor for another agency.

I run the Alcohol Referral programme for Offenders and Victims (ARPOV). It is a voluntary course for people who have been arrested for an alcohol related offence. I have experience of working with Social Services (Child Protection Team) and Mental Health Rehabilitation working with dual diagnosis clients. I am a qualified counsellor and have worked with SWADS as a counsellor for 2 years. I have worked in HMP Service delivering short term interventions related to health, well being and addressing drug and alcohol dependency.

I work for New Highway as a project worker within the DRR team in Trowbridge.I began volunteering for New Highway back in 2003 and volunteered after my initial training for approximately 18months. I then began 6months paid work covering someones leave within the criminal justice system. Following this I was lucky to have an opportunity to join the DRR team on a permanent basis in 2005. I have been trained in auricular acupuncture and have gained a certificate in intermediate counselling skills and am currently working towards my NVQ qualification. I am extremly passionate about my job and find myself learning new things every day....no day is ever the same !!!!!!!

I am a T3 drugs worker based in Westbury. I’ve been in the drug and alcohol field for ten years in different roles and with BADAS/New Highway for a year. I enjoy the challenge of the frontline nature of the work with our client group. I conduct full assessments, key work clients on subutex and methadone scripts, support prescribing GPs and make referrals to rehab and group work provision as clients move towards abstinence.

I have worked for New Highway (and originally BADAS) for 4 and a half years. I am the prescribing doctor for the service and have seen it improve year on year. I undertake assessment and treatment of patients who are referred by their GPs or who self-refer. I have a rolling roster of around 80 patients. We those who are often at the some of lowest points of their lives and I really feel we make a difference. The work is interesting and challenging, but always rewarding.
